A view to the south from Glacier Creek, the main artery of water in Glacier Gorge. Chiefshead and Spearhead appear on the horizon in the distance.
Taken: Aug 18, 2011
On the fire trail, Hikemaster Scott's mom takes a picture southward towards Thatchtop Mountain (left) and West Glacier Knob (right). The hikers had entertained ideas of climbing Thatchtop today, but everything didn't go as planned.
"The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake" at dawn 10,000 ft. high in Colorado's Rockies! Hikemaster Scott is going to miss this peace in the weeks to come. It's comforting to know that this lake will always be here to soothe the soul.
With an early 6:15 AM start from the trailhead, one can enjoy this scene and have it all to themselves: Mills Lake reflects some of RMNP's biggest peaks: Longs (left), Pagoda (center), and Chiefshead (right).
Thatchtop Mountain (12,668 ft, 38th in RMNP) reflects in Mills Lake on a gorgeous, calm early morning in RMNP.
From the southern end of Mills Lake, this northward shot captures the eastern ridge of Hallett Peak glowing in sunlight. Glacier Gorge itself often remains in shadow well into the morning due to the northern ridge off Longs Peak.
Art and Juli walk on boardwalks not far from Mills Lake. In the frosty morning air, the boards themselves were somewhat frosted and slick!
